Supervised Practicum

Enrollment into this course must be done through contacting the Coordinator for the Alcohol and Drug Counseling Certificate program.

Support is provided to the 255 hour practicum experience. Explores self-care, reinforces and applies the material contained in the Tap 21 and the 12 Core Functions; as well as developing a “voice” as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor. In addition to the 45 classroom hours, this segment requires 255 hours of practical experience performed at an agency. Student has one calendar year from the start of this class to complete their practical experience component. At the practical experience site the student receives direct supervision and must complete activities covering all the 12 Core functions. For each core function there must be a minimum of 21 hours of activity performed at the site. (45 class room hours + 255 practical experience hours = 300 hours)

Alternate Schedule

No class will be held on 3-27-13.

A "pre-course" meeting will be held on Monday, 12-10-12 at 6:00 pm in University Hall, room 1878.  The meeting is for students currently meeting the pre-requisites for the course and anticipating in enrolling in this course during the Spring 2013 semester. The primary focus of the meeting is discussion of the site practicum requirement.  Attendance at the meeting is optional.

Prerequisites All classes, except Group Counseling or Family Counseling if taken concurrent with this class. Prior to enrollment the Practicum Site Agreement must be approved.
