| Description |
Explore Balinese gong-chimes, keyed instruments, drumming and dance with West African influences. The traditional Balinese gamelan angklung – an ensemble of these instruments - and influences from Ghana will be part of the hands-on learning and group performance. Open to all. | Teacher Bio |
Paul Humphreys is the founder and director of Gamelan “Kembang Atangi” (Flower of Awakening) at LMU. Under his direction, the group has presented concerts at Loyola and in various communities of Southern California. The repertoire includes traditional compositions for instruments and dance as well as newly composed (“kreasi”) works that combine aspects of traditional Balinese music with other traditions of world music. Humphreys is Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Program for World Music at Loyola Marymount University. |
