| Description |
Description: The Survey Course in Bioethics for Healthcare and Legal Professionals is designed especially for physicians, nurses, chaplains, hospital administrators, social workers and attorneys who either have an interest in or who are already involved in the field of bioethics. The course is of particular benefit to new members of bioethics committees. It will survey the major developments in bioethics and focus on some of the most important ethical, legal and medical issues associated with clinical decision-making. Lectures and group discussion of case studies are used to create a highly interactive learning environment. James J. Walter, PhD, holds the Austin & Ann O'Malley Chair in Bioethics in The Bioethics Institute at Loyola Marymount University. He
received his Bachelor's degree in Philosophy, and then he earned advanced degrees in Theology (S.T.B.), Philosophy (Ph.B.), Religious Studies (B.A., M.A.), and a Ph.D. in ethics from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven). He has published Artificial Nutrition & Hydration and the Permanently Unconscious Patient: The Catholic Debate; Contemporary Issues in Bioethics: A Catholic Perspective; Quality of Life: The New Medical Dilemma; A Call to Fidelity: On the Moral Theology of Charles E. Curran; and The New Genetic Medicine: Theological and Ethical Reflections. |
