| Description |
An in-depth look at the areas of counselor burnout, personal growth, professional growth (including career planning, training, education, time management), consultation, and impaired counselor resources. This course involves on-site supervised experience (Internship) of 255 hours at an approved facility, in conjunction with a two-semester seminar class, specifically designed to provide the student with opportunities to review cases, resolve conflict, and obtain direction and feedback regarding their experiences in the field. Please note: Student has one calendar year from the start of this class to complete their fieldwork/internship component. Internships are typically unpaid, and are considered "work for experience." Fieldwork emphasis is relational to the Certificate being pursued: Addiction Counseling, Criminal Justice Addictions Profesional, or Co-Occurring Disorders. Course is for those who are planning to complete their studies and sit for the state certification written examination. Prerequisites: At least 4 (four) ALDX courses must be completed prior to taking this course. 1 (One) of the 4 courses may be taken simultaneously, with approval of Instructor. No class 11/26. |

Jack Kearney, MDiv, MAC, is a commissioner of the Los Angeles County Commission on Alcoholism. He also serves as president of Family Intervention Center & Services, a board member of the California Association for Alcohol/Drug Educators, a member of the L.A. County Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Commission. He is adjunct faculty in the Dept. of Human Services at Cypress College, and at the Training Institute for Addiction Counselors. |
