This is the first of two courses for the Certificate Program in Parish Business Administration. Participants are introduced to various topics required for the effective administration of today’s parishes. Skills such as accounting, financial planning, human resources, facilities and office management, canon and civil law, and pastoral planning are stressed, along with their theological and pastoral significance. Issues of cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity in the parish and diocese are also addressed, along with some background topics in ecclesiology and theology. Participants will also benefit from meeting and hearing guest speakers, including some top administrators from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This program is open to all, especially anyone already working or seeking employment as a Parish Business Manager, and those involved in similar administrative positions in schools, hospitals, retreat houses, and other church-related institutions.
This is the first semester of a intensive two-semester certificate program. To become eligible for the Certificate in Parish Business Administration, a student must successfully complete both this class and RELX 921.01, which will be offered beginning in January of next year. Classes meet September 12, September 26, October 10, October 24, November 7, November 21 and December 5.
