| Description |
This is the first of two courses for the Certificate Program in Pastoral Care. It provides pastoral ministers with in-depth training in the spirituality and practice of caring for those in crisis with illness or aging, death or bereavement; with family or relationship issues; with disabled or troubled children; with those who suffer from crime or violence, from alcohol or drug abuse. Participants will also learn how to invite and mentor volunteers as pastoral ministers, giving special attention to their spiritual growth and journeys. This program is open to all, especially anyone involved in volunteer or professional ministry to the sick, aged, disabled, or others with critical needs.
This is the first semester of a two-semester certificate program. To become eligible for the Certificate in Pastoral Care, a student must successfully complete both this class and RELX 831.01. Ann M. Karner, M.A., is a Pastoral Associate at American Martyrs Parish in Manhattan Beach. She has extensive experience in pastoral ministry at various parishes, as well as experience with hospice care and domestic violence. Having earned Master’s degrees in Religious Studies and Gerontology, her areas of expertise include death and dying, bereavement, aging and eldercare, and separation and divorce. |
